Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun led party leaders and delegates at the Ogun State Congress of the All Progressives Congress, where Chief Yemi Sanusi and 35 others were re-elected as members of the party’s State Executive Committee for another four-year term.

The congress, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, drew 1,180 delegates and statutory members who affirmed the executives through a voice vote. The exercise was supervised by the APC Congress Committee Chairman, Chief Wale Ohu, alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Speaking at the event and later reflecting on it via his official Facebook page, Governor Abiodun described the congress as a demonstration of unity, stability, and shared conviction within the party.

According to the governor, internal democracy must be genuinely practised and not merely proclaimed. He stressed that principled leadership, transparency, grassroots engagement, and organisational discipline remain essential for sustaining the party’s electoral success.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Abiodun urged members to intensify engagement across wards and local governments, communicate the achievements of the party honestly, and continue building public trust. He congratulated Chief Yemi Sanusi and other newly elected executives, reminding them that their responsibilities are strategic and demanding.

The governor charged the leadership to strengthen party structures, promote inclusiveness—especially for youths and women—reconcile aggrieved members, and uphold the constitution of the party. He also appreciated aspirants and party faithful for their commitment and called for continued unity as the party moves forward in Ogun State.

Chief Yemi Sanusi was returned as State Chairman, while other officials elected include Alhaja Aminat Adigun as State Women Leader, Prince Aderibigbe Tella as State Secretary, and Chief Yemi Adelani as State Organising Secretary.

Also commenting on the congress, Senator Olamilekan Adeola recalled that the event brought together influential leaders from across Ogun State, including incumbent and former senators as well as members of the House of Representatives.

According to him, all stakeholders were properly notified and attendance reflected those committed to the process. He noted that delegates elected from various wards, alongside statutory delegates, were fully present at the congress.
While acknowledging that contests within political parties may produce different outcomes, the senator emphasised that the overall interest of the party remains paramount.

He congratulated the newly elected State Executive Committee members and prayed for the success of their leadership, describing the APC as a collective platform for all members.
“APC, my party. Your party. Our party,” he stated.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Yemi Sanusi expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support in strengthening the party. He pledged that the executive would justify the confidence reposed in them by reinforcing party structures, promoting fairness and equity, and expanding opportunities for young people within the party.
Sanusi also assured members that discipline would remain non-negotiable and that the party leadership would remain accessible to all.
