The academic community is set for another moment of intellectual engagement as Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, prepares to host its 126th Inaugural Lecture, a platform known for advancing critical scholarship and public discourse.
The lecture, to be delivered by Professor Babajide Olugbenga Dasaolu, a Professor of Philosophy (African and Applied Ethics) and Dean, Faculty of Arts, is titled: “For the ‘Animal-Witches’ We Kill in the Name of God: A Moralist’s Petition.”
The thought-provoking theme is expected to interrogate deep-seated cultural, religious, and ethical assumptions surrounding violence justified in the name of belief systems.
Scholars, students, and members of the public anticipate a rigorous philosophical exploration that will challenge prevailing narratives and provoke meaningful dialogue on morality, superstition, and human responsibility in contemporary society.

The event will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ayodeji O. J. Agboola, whose presence underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering high-level academic discourse and critical inquiry.
According to the official schedule, the lecture will take place as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 14th April, 2026
Time: 2:00 PM (Guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 PM)
Venue: OGD Lecture Theatre, Olabisi Onabanjo University Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye
In line with evolving accessibility trends, the lecture will also be available to a wider audience via virtual participation, reflecting the university’s effort to expand the reach of its intellectual contributions.
OOU’s inaugural lecture series has long served as a platform for distinguished professors to present their research and perspectives to both academic and non-academic audiences.
With its bold and reflective theme, Professor Dasaolu’s lecture is poised to continue this tradition—offering not just scholarship, but a call to ethical reflection in a complex world.
