The Federal Ministry of Works has commenced urgent maintenance work on the Kara Bridge along the outbound Lagos corridor of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway today, March 10, 2026.
The two-week project, scheduled to conclude on March 24, 2026, focuses on replacing damaged expansion joints that have reached critical levels of deterioration.
Engr. Olayiwola Komolafe, Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, has issued a travel advisory warning motorists of expected disruptions.
Commuters are urged to use alternative routes to bypass the work zone:

From Ikorodu to Northern Destinations: Use the Shimawa or Mosinmi routes to reach Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan.
From Lagos Island to Eastern Hubs: Take the Epe corridor through Ijebu-Ode.
The Kara Bridge maintenance is part of a wider federal intervention that also includes stabilization works on the Arepo and Magboro bridges, identified in May 2025 as needing urgent attention to prevent full-scale structural failure.
Authorities emphasized that while the repairs may cause temporary inconvenience, the project is critical to ensure the safety of thousands of commuters who traverse the bridge daily and to secure Ogun State’s strategic transport corridor linking Lagos and southwestern Nigeria.
