The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ogun State Council, has honoured the immediate past Head of Service of Ogun State, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, in recognition of his service to the state and contributions to pensioners’ welfare.
Onasanya was honoured at a brief ceremony in Ogun State, where pensioners praised his tenure for what they described as a strong commitment to the wellbeing of senior citizens and improved attention to their needs.
Speaking at the event, the union’s chairman, Alhaji Oloyede Oyede, described Onasanya’s tenure as unprecedented in terms of development and concern for pensioners across the state.
Other senior members of the union, who spoke at the ceremony, described the former Head of Service as humble, accessible and sensitive to the welfare of retirees.
They also commended the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun for policies they said had improved the welfare of pensioners, including a health insurance scheme, continued payment of inherited gratuity arrears, prompt payment of monthly pensions and other forms of support.
Oyede described the health insurance scheme introduced during Onasanya’s tenure as particularly significant, saying it had helped reduce the burden of medical expenses amid rising treatment and medication costs.
“The health insurance scheme introduced during the tenure of Mr Onasanya is a life-saving programme and mitigates the cost of treatment amid skyrocketing prices of treatment and medications,” he said.
He added that the scheme had been structured so that pensioners would not have to pay out of pocket, describing it as an enduring gift from the Abiodun administration to retirees.
The pensioners offered prayers for Governor Abiodun and the former Head of Service, wishing Onasanya success in his future endeavours.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a gift to Onasanya as a token of appreciation for his service to the state.
