In what appears to be a follow-up to recent discussions within the Fusengbuwa Ruling House on lineage identity and structure, key leaders of the family have moved to clarify the true composition of the Tunwase branch, emphasizing unity and authenticity within the royal fold.
At a press briefing held on Friday at the residence of Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba in Ijebu-Ode, the leadership of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House restated that only the genuine members of the Tunwase lineage are recognized as part of the family’s historical and traditional structure.
Otunba Ajidagba, the Olori-Ebi of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, speaking alongside Prince Adeleke Adeyemi, the family’s secretary and General Secretary of the Four Ruling Houses of Ijebuland, addressed what they described as the need to preserve the integrity of the Fusengbuwa legacy and avoid unnecessary distortions of history.
Ajidagba explained that the Tunwase branch has been a longstanding and active part of the Fusengbuwa family for over a century, fully participating in family meetings, cultural events, and traditional functions.
“Let me set the records straight,” he said. “The Tunwase lineage has existed for well over 120 years, actively participating in all our family engagements as a recognized branch of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. No outsider has ever been part of this lineage.”
Prince Adeleke Adeyemi reinforced this stance, noting that membership in the Fusengbuwa Ruling House—and by extension the Tunwase branch—is strictly determined by ancestral descent, not association or recent claims.
He further explained that the family has always upheld transparency in its structure and succession process, guided by the declaration under the Chiefs Law of 1957, which outlines the rotation of the Awujale stool among the four ruling houses—Gbelegbuwa, Anikinaiya, Fusengbuwa, and Fidipote—with Fusengbuwa next in line.
Ajidagba and Adeyemi jointly reaffirmed that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House remains united under its recognized branches, namely Jadiara, Bubiade, Tunwase, and Fusengbuwa, stressing that all authentic descendants remain committed to the family’s peace, progress, and orderly participation in the succession process.
They urged the public to rely on verified information from the family’s recognized leadership as preparations continue toward the next phase of the Awujale succession exercise.
