Adeleke, Wike, Soludo named APC campaign coordinators despite party differences

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been named the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council coordinator in Osun State ahead of the 2027 general election, in a development that has attracted attention because of his political affiliation.

The appointment is part of a revised campaign council list released on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, which also includes prominent politicians affiliated with parties other than the APC.

The development is particularly striking because Adeleke secured his re-election as Osun governor on August 16, 2026, under the Accord Party, rather than the APC. His inclusion in the ruling party’s presidential campaign structure therefore raises questions about how the expanded council intends to mobilise support across party lines.

Adeleke is not the only politician from outside the APC to receive a campaign coordination role. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been named coordinator for Rivers State and the FCT, while Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who belongs to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will coordinate the campaign in Anambra State.

Under the revised arrangement, President Bola Tinubu will chair the campaign council, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, serving as vice-chairmen. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are also listed as deputy vice-chairmen.

Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari will serve as Director-General of the council, while several serving governors, ministers, former governors and party chieftains have been assigned roles in the campaign structure.

The revised list is expected to be inaugurated by Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

Although Adeleke’s appointment may surprise political observers given his Accord Party affiliation, the published list identifies him as the APC campaign coordinator for Osun State. The appointment, by itself, does not establish that he has defected to the APC.
