Nigeria’s Super Falcons will seek to secure a place in the third round of the African qualifying series for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games when they face Comoros in Tuesday’s second-leg encounter at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State.
The 10-time African champions head into the 3 p.m. fixture with a 2–0 advantage following their victory in the first leg on Friday, October 9, when defender Michelle Alozie and forward Uchenna Kanu scored second-half goals to put Nigeria in a strong position to progress.
Alozie broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart, capitalising on a chance created by Gift Monday, before Kanu doubled Nigeria’s lead around the hour mark from Jennifer Echegini’s corner kick.
Although the first leg was played in Nigeria, it was officially designated as Comoros’ home fixture because the island nation does not have a stadium approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for international matches. Both legs are therefore being played at the Ikenne venue.
Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has challenged the players to complete the job with another victory rather than approach the return fixture merely to defend their two-goal advantage.
The coach’s position reflects Nigeria’s determination to maintain their momentum as they pursue qualification for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.
A win or draw will send Nigeria through to the next round, while Comoros must overcome the two-goal deficit to keep their qualification hopes alive.
If the Super Falcons progress, they will face Morocco in the third round of the African qualifying series, bringing them another step closer to a second consecutive Olympic appearance.
Nigeria returned to the women’s Olympic football tournament at Paris 2024 after a 16-year absence. The team will now seek to build on that return and secure another place on the global stage.
