A Crown Beyond Price: Fusengbuwa Royal House Reaffirms Unity in Ijebu-Ode

Ajidagba welcome new new returnees

“The Awujale crown is not for outsiders, and it is not for sale,” declared Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, the Olori-Ebi of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, as he addressed a sea of princes and princesses gathered at Ile-Nla Quarters, Agusenbi, Ijebu-Ode, on Sunday.

deliberate, and deeply symbolic — echoed through the ancestral compound, marking a defining moment for one of Ijebuland’s most historic royal lineages.

“It is reserved for genuine descendants of the Fusengbuwa family,” Ajidagba continued. “Today, we are welcoming back some of our members who have seen the light and returned home — including Otunba Deji Osibogun, Engr. Kayode Shote, and others. This is a home built on truth and lineage, not ambition or influence.”

The event, attended by more than 200 members of the Fusengbuwa family, was more than a meeting — it was a homecoming. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as returning members were received into the fold, reaffirming their heritage and loyalty to the lineage that traces its roots to the founding families of Ijebu-Ode.

Ajidagba used the occasion to stress that the Awujale stool — the most revered traditional throne in Ijebuland — remains a sacred inheritance, not a prize for sale or political bargaining.

“There is no other authentic faction of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House anywhere,” he asserted. “I am the fifth generation from Ile-Nla. Our unity is not a slogan — it’s our identity.”

He revealed that more than 35 aspirants from within the family have been screened as potential candidates for the throne, following the rotation principles outlined in the 1957 Chiefs Law governing royal succession in Ijebuland.

For many in attendance, the meeting symbolized a new chapter — one where reconciliation and truth take precedence over rivalry.

Prince Shakiru Bello, one of the aspirants, described the gathering as a sign of renewed strength.

“The unity we are seeing today is divine,” he said. “It means the Fusengbuwa family is ready to move forward with one heart and one purpose.”

Prince Olaseni Ottun shared similar sentiments, adding that the turnout was proof of a deeper revival.

“The Fusengbuwa house at Ile-Nla is the heartbeat of Ijebuland’s royal history. This unity shows we are prepared to protect our legacy and move as one into the future.”

The gathering comes at a historic juncture as Ijebuland prepares for a new era following the transition of Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, GCON, the late Awujale whose reign defined modern Ijebu identity.

As the Fusengbuwa Ruling House renews its commitment to unity and truth, one message rings clear — in Ijebuland, the crown is not a commodity, but a covenant between lineage, legacy, and destiny.
