Osborne Umahi, the first son of Nigeria’s Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator David Umahi, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship primary election for Ohaozara Local Government Area.
The primary election was conducted by the APC on Monday, with Osborne Umahi emerging as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Ebonyi State. Reports indicate that the aspirant purchased the APC nomination form at the cost of ₦30 million before contesting the primary.
The development has attracted significant attention, given the political stature of his father, David Umahi, who remains one of the most influential figures in Ebonyi politics. Since his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC and subsequent appointment as Minister of Works, Umahi has consolidated strong political structures within the state.
Supporters describe Osborne Umahi’s victory as a reflection of party confidence in his leadership potential, while critics have raised concerns about the high cost of nomination forms and the influence of political families in local governance.
With the primary secured, Osborne Umahi is now positioned as the APC’s candidate for the Ohaozara Local Government Area chairmanship seat, as the party intensifies preparations for the council elections.
