Tinubu to Address Nigerians on Democracy Day

PresidentPresident to deliver nationwide broadcast as Nigeria marks Democracy Day; television and radio stations directed to relay address.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to address Nigerians in a nationwide broadcast today, Friday 12th as the country commemorates Democracy Day, an annual observance dedicated to celebrating Nigeria’s democratic journey and constitutional governance.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday, the President’s address will be transmitted live at 7:00 a.m. through the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Radio Nigeria.

The national broadcast is expected to highlight the significance of Democracy Day, reflect on Nigeria’s democratic progress, and outline the administration’s perspectives on governance, national development, and the future of the country.

The Presidency also directed all television and radio stations across the country to hook into the NTA and Radio Nigeria networks to ensure widespread coverage of the President’s message to the nation.

Democracy Day serves as a symbolic reminder of Nigeria’s democratic evolution and the sacrifices made by individuals and groups who contributed to the country’s return to civilian rule. The annual event also provides an opportunity for national reflection on democratic values, governance, accountability, and citizen participation.

President Tinubu’s address comes at a time when his administration continues to implement economic and governance reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with many Nigerians expected to listen closely for updates on key national issues and government priorities.

The broadcast will form part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration and is expected to reach millions of Nigerians across the country through radio, television, and digital platforms.

Political observers note that Democracy Day remains one of Nigeria’s most significant national observances, offering an opportunity for leaders to engage citizens on the state of the nation and reaffirm commitments to democratic principles.

The annual commemoration also honours the struggles of pro-democracy activists and serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions, the rule of law, and good governance.

As Nigerians prepare to mark the occasion, attention will be focused on the President’s message and its implications for the nation’s political and economic trajectory in the months ahead.
