Tinubu Congratulates Winners of FCT, Kano and Rivers Elections

President Urges Newly Elected Leaders to Serve with Humility and Dedication Commends INEC, Security Agencies and Voters for Peaceful Polls

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of the elections held on Saturday in the Federal Capital Territory as well as in Kano State and Rivers State.

The elections, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), covered the six area councils in the FCT and by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, alongside the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on February 22, 2026, the President urged the newly elected officials to serve the people with humility, patriotism, and dedication.

He emphasised that the mandate given to them by the electorate should be regarded as a sacred trust that must be honoured through responsible leadership and service.

President Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as remarkable achievements in the territory, noting that the administration’s efforts have yielded political dividends for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The President further congratulated the national leadership of the party, as well as its Kano and Rivers State chapters, for their victories at the polls, describing the outcome as a reflection of the party’s growing support among voters.

He lauded INEC, security agencies, and citizens who participated in the elections for ensuring that the process was peaceful and successful. According to him, the conduct of the polls demonstrated the strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

President Tinubu also commended all contestants for their courage and discipline during the electoral process, noting that democracy thrives when citizens actively participate and compete for leadership through legitimate means.

He added that the successful conduct of the elections further strengthens the country’s democratic culture and urged INEC to continue improving its electoral processes to deliver even more credible and exemplary elections in the future.
