Sanwo-Olu Hosts One-Day Governor, Lagos Spelling Bee Champion at Marina

Esther Etiyemonu’s victory highlights promise and excellence of Lagos youth

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday received Miss Etiyemonu Esther, the One Day Governor and overall winner of the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, at Lagos House, Marina, commending her brilliance and dedication.

Esther, a student of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta, earned the prestigious One Day Governor title after emerging as the overall champion of the 21st edition of the Lagos Spelling Bee.

During the reception at Lagos House, Marina, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the young champion as a shining example of the intelligence, discipline, and resilience that define Lagos youth.

He noted that Esther’s confidence, composure, and sharp focus distinguished her throughout the competition, adding that her victory reflects the rewards of hard work and perseverance.
“This achievement is not just a trophy; it is proof that hard work still speaks loudly,” the governor said, congratulating her for bringing pride to the state.

The One Day Governor initiative is designed to encourage academic excellence, leadership development, and healthy competition among students across Lagos State. The Lagos Spelling Bee, now in its 21st year, has continued to serve as a platform for nurturing young talents and promoting literacy.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through sustained investment in infrastructure, teacher development, and student-focused initiatives aimed at preparing young people for global opportunities.

He urged students across the state to draw inspiration from Esther’s accomplishment and remain committed to their studies.

“Lagos is proud of you and cheering you on every step of the way,” the governor told the young champion.
