Onabanjo Denounces Premature Awujale Claims, Bloggers Asked to Issue Rejoinders

Prince Abimbola Onabanjo insists on due process as family elder condemns misinformation and backs call for formal corrections.

Prince Abimbola Onabanjo of the Fusengbuwa Royal House has urged members of the public to desist from addressing him as the Awujale of Ijebuland or circulating materials that suggest any conclusion has already been reached regarding the revered stool.

Popularly known as Omooba Onabanjo, he expressed sincere appreciation for the love, confidence, and goodwill shown toward him, noting that he receives such gestures with humility and gratitude.

He emphasized that the selection of an Awujale of Ijebuland is a sacred, solemn, and time-honoured process, strictly governed by established customs and traditions. Quoting the adage “Ilú fé mi l’óyè”—meaning it is the community that bestows the crown—he stressed that respect for tradition makes it imperative to address the issue clearly and responsibly.

In the interest of preserving the sanctity, dignity, and integrity of Ijebu tradition, Omooba Abimbola Onabanjo appealed to supporters, well-wishers, and the general public to refrain from referring to him as the Awujale or promoting narratives that imply a predetermined outcome.

It was further revealed that certain bloggers were responsible for publishing the misleading information. They have since been formally contacted and asked to write rejoinders to correct the false reports and set the record straight.

Reacting to the development, one of the highly revered members of the Fusengbuwa Royal Family strongly condemned the act of misinformation and confirmed that issuing a rejoinder is both necessary and appropriate to protect the integrity of the royal institution and uphold the truth.

Prince Onabanjo also expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming prayers, goodwill, and support received from friends, associates, and well-wishers across various platforms, noting that the show of affection has not gone unnoticed.

He reaffirmed his firm commitment to the values, unity, and rich cultural heritage of Ijebuland, while respectfully urging all concerned to allow the rightful and recognized traditional processes to take their proper course.
