Olawale Shittu Backs Odogbolu as Proposed Capital of Ijebu/Remo State

Hon. Olawale Shittu, former Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, has expressed optimism that Odogbolu will emerge as the capital of the proposed Ijebu/Remo State if the creation plan materialises.

Shittu made the assertion while speaking on the prospects of the proposed state, stressing that Odogbolu possesses the historical relevance, central location, and administrative capacity required of a state capital.

He noted that the town’s strategic positioning within the Ijebu/Remo axis makes it a natural choice for administrative coordination and governance.

According to him, beyond geography, Odogbolu has the infrastructure potential and land availability needed to accommodate the institutions and growth that typically follow the emergence of a state capital.

He added that making Odogbolu the capital would promote balanced development across the proposed state and prevent overconcentration in already congested urban centres.

“Odogbolu is centrally located and historically significant. It has the space and structure to grow into a befitting state capital,” he said.

Shittu also addressed local infrastructure concerns, assuring residents that the link road to Federal Government College, Odogbolu (FEDGO) — which has long posed challenges and distress to parents, teachers, and students — is about 60 per cent completed.

He expressed hope that stakeholders involved in the state creation discussions would carefully consider Odogbolu’s advantages when decisions are being made.
