The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, has emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building as a key driver of efficiency, productivity, and excellence in the Civil Service.
Onasanya stated this while declaring open a three-day 2026 Staff Retreat organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs at Rolak Hotel and Suites, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The retreat, themed “Enhancing Productivity through Effective Service Delivery in the Civil Service,” brought together staff members of the ministry for training and strategic engagement.
According to the Head of Service, the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun remains committed to manpower development across the Ogun State Civil Service, noting that a well-trained workforce is essential for effective governance and improved public service delivery.
“This commitment is anchored on the conviction that a well-trained workforce will invariably become a more productive and efficient workforce.
Government has therefore continued to invest significantly in various training programmes, workshops, seminars and retreats designed to improve the competence and productivity of public servants,” he said.

He explained that the retreat aligns with the government’s broader vision of strengthening institutional effectiveness and promoting efficient service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.
Onasanya noted that efficiency in the Civil Service goes beyond speed in carrying out official duties, stressing that it also involves accountability, professionalism, prudent resource management, innovation, teamwork, and adherence to service ethics.
“As public servants, we must constantly remind ourselves that our actions and decisions directly affect the confidence reposed in Government by the people,” he added.
The Head of Service commended the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for sustaining the tradition of organising periodic retreats for staff members, describing such initiatives as strategic platforms for repositioning officers for improved performance and renewed dedication to duty.
He urged participants to actively engage in all sessions, embrace new ideas, and use the opportunity to improve their capacity for better institutional performance and service delivery.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, said the retreat was organised to assess the ministry’s achievements and reposition staff members for greater productivity.

Hamzat stated that staff welfare and development remain central to the ministry’s vision, urging participants to maximise the opportunity provided by the retreat to strengthen collaboration and improve overall performance.
“I must mention that this retreat is designed to bring us together under the same roof, not minding any status. It serves as a leveler for individual role appreciation and value addition assessment,” he said.
