The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government to consider the resuscitation, modernisation and commercial revamp of the moribund Gateway Hotel, Ota, to boost economic growth, job creation and tourism development.
The resolution followed extensive deliberations on a motion titled “Urgent Need for the Resuscitation, Modernisation and Commercial Revamp of the Moribund Gateway Hotel, Ota as a Strategic Economic and Tourism Asset of the State” during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Leading the debate, the sponsor of the motion and Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Yusuf Sheriff, highlighted the economic and strategic value of reviving the facility, describing it as a potential revenue-generating asset capable of stimulating local economic activities, attracting private investment and creating employment opportunities for residents.
Several lawmakers, including the Chief Whip, Hon. Omolola Bakare; Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye; and Honourables Musefiu Lamidi, Adebisi Oyedele, Oluseun Adesanya, Wahab Haruna and Babatunde Tella, threw their weight behind the motion. They called for focused rehabilitation efforts to reposition the hotel as a key contributor to the state’s hospitality and tourism sector.
“The resuscitation of Gateway Hotel, Ota, will serve as a viable revenue source and stimulate economic activities while creating jobs for the people,” Hon. Yusuf Sheriff said.
The lawmakers noted that revamping the abandoned hotel would enhance the state’s public image and complement Ogun’s status as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial hubs. They also stressed that redeveloping the facility would help deter criminal activities reportedly taking place in and around the premises.
They urged the state government to adopt a public-private partnership approach to ensure that the redevelopment reflects the values and aspirations of Ogun State as a forward-looking investment and tourism destination.
The resolution was formally adopted following a motion moved by Hon. Sheriff and seconded by Hon. Bakare, while the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolanle Ajayi, moved the motion converting the debate into a House resolution, seconded by Hon. Adeleye and unanimously supported by members.
Responding, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide commended lawmakers for their robust contributions and directed that copies of the resolution be forwarded to relevant government agencies and stakeholders for necessary action.
In a related development, a bill titled “Ogun State Agricultural Land Management Agency Bill, 2025” scaled first reading during the plenary, as it was read for the first time by the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr Sakiru Adebakin.
