Fusengbuwa Clans Unite: Owoyemi, Ajidagba, and Fassy Yusuf Merge Under One Royal Family Structure

In a landmark move to strengthen unity and restore harmony within the royal lineage, three major factions of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode have officially merged into one unified body.

The merger was sealed on Friday, November 7, 2025, during a historic meeting of the 12 Family Head Committee held at the family’s ancestral home, Ule-Nla Agunsenbi Quarters, Ijebu-Ode. The gathering concluded with the unanimous adoption of key resolutions, now formalized as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) among the three principal leaders — Otunba Abdul-Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, and Chief (Prof.) Fassy Adetokunbo Yusuf.

According to the communiqué, the newly unified body shall henceforth be known and recognized as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Ijebu-Ode, in full accordance with existing customary and legal provisions governing royal succession in Ijebuland.

The new leadership structure was also announced as follows: Otunba Abdul-Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi – Family Chairman, Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba – Family Deputy Chairman, Chief (Prof.) Fassy Adetokunbo Yusuf – Family Vice Chairman, Pastor Prince Bola Salami – Family General Secretary, Omoba Abiodun Ogidan – Family Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Adebisi Quadri – Family Treasurer

One of the major resolutions adopted at the meeting was the abolition of candidature fees for aspirants to the Awujale stool. Acting on the advisory of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ogun State, the committee agreed that no member seeking the throne shall henceforth be required to pay any fee. Payments previously made by any candidate are to be refunded by the affected family units.

The family also resolved that each royal house within the Fusengbuwa lineage must maintain an updated register of members, with a copy submitted to the central registry for proper documentation.

To reinforce transparency and unity, it was further resolved that all future general meetings of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House shall hold within the Ule-Nla Agunsenbi compound, with every member guaranteed access and participation.

A copy of the resolutions — duly signed by the Family Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and Vice Chairman — will be forwarded to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, Governor of Ogun State, for official record and acknowledgment.

The family expressed its appreciation to the Ogun State Government for its timely intervention and support in ensuring peaceful reconciliation among members.

The full text of the resolution was jointly signed by: Otunba Abdul-Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi — Family Chairman,  Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba — Family Deputy Chairman, Chief (Prof.) Fassy Adetokunbo Yusuf — Family Vice Chairman

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is one of the four principal royal lineages recognized under the 1957 Chiefs Law of Western Nigeria, which governs succession to the Awujale of Ijebuland throne. In recent years, differing interpretations of lineage structure had caused divisions among some family members.
The new Memorandum of Understanding marks a decisive step toward reconciliation, unity, and transparency — restoring confidence in the traditional succession process within the Ijebu royal system.
