The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olorunda Unit Command, Yewa North Local Government Area, has cautioned motorists to avoid over-speeding and other unsafe practices as the year’s Ember Months peak.
The Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Ramoni Alade, gave the warning during a courtesy visit to the Yewa North Local Government Secretariat, Ayetoro, as part of ongoing safety sensitisation efforts.
Alade said the FRSC had launched an awareness campaign tagged “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” aimed at educating drivers and commuters across motor parks and transport hubs in the area.
“During the Ember Months, all road users, particularly drivers, must ensure their vehicles are in good condition. They should avoid speeding, check their tyres, obey traffic regulations, and never drive under the influence of alcohol,” Alade stressed.
He added that the Corps was collaborating with other security and traffic agencies — including the Nigeria Police and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) — to curb reckless driving and reduce road crashes during the period.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, commended the FRSC for the initiative, noting that the final quarter of the year typically records increased movement of people and vehicles, heightening the risk of road accidents.
“Motorists should imbibe a safety-conscious attitude, avoid speeding, and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained. They must also check water levels, brakes, and tyres regularly,” Akinbode advised.
Other officials present included Mr. Idowu Odeyemi, Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA); Mrs. Anu Fatade, Director of General Services and Administration (DGSA); SRC Olorode, FRSC Head of Operations; RC Olasupo, Unit Head of Public Education; and DRC Liadi, Unit Head of Transport Safety and Corps Safety Engineering.
