Abiodun Backs Local Industry as Tinubu Hails Ogun’s Industrial Growth

Governor pledges support for indigenous manufacturers, unveils plan for 3,000km fibre optic rollout across Ogun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting indigenous manufacturing and digital infrastructure, describing the newly commissioned Phase Two Fibre Optic Factory of Coleman Wires and Cables as a milestone that will transform the state’s economy and Nigeria’s industrial landscape.

The commissioning, held on Wednesday in Sagamu as part of Coleman’s 50th anniversary celebrations, was attended by top government officials and industry leaders. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, praised Ogun State for creating a conducive business environment that supports local industries and encourages innovation.

The President reaffirmed Ogun’s position as Nigeria’s most dynamic industrial belt, saying the event reflected the federal government’s vision to support indigenous companies capable of driving the nation’s industrial revolution.

“In line with the government’s vision of the Made-In-Nigeria campaign, we are proud of this fibre optic cable factory, which stands as a testament to building local capacity,” President Tinubu said. “Indeed, this is the first and biggest cable factory in Africa. It aligns with the industrial health of the country and reduces dependence on foreign exchange to import optical fibres.”

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, also commended Coleman’s achievement, pledging full federal support for the company’s continued expansion.

“The commissioning of this factory is commendable and worth celebrating. Not every business successfully transitions to the next generation, but Coleman has sustained excellence,” Dr. Tijani noted. “With Nigeria expanding the deployment of fibre optic cables nationwide, Coleman’s leadership makes this vision easier and real. This will save capital flight and create both direct and indirect jobs.”

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his remarks, described the event as a “major milestone” in Ogun’s industrial journey, adding that the state government will be a major patron and beneficiary of Coleman’s fibre cables.

“The commissioning of Phase 2 of Coleman’s factory is a landmark achievement that will create thousands of direct and indirect opportunities. Every sector will feel the impact of fibre optic connectivity,” the Governor said. “With this, we are set to deploy over 3,000 kilometres of fibre optic cables across Ogun State.”

He further emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s broader vision to expand broadband access, strengthen supply chains, and promote digital inclusion.

Online reactions following the event have been largely positive, with many commentators applauding Governor Abiodun’s commitment to supporting local industries and building digital infrastructure. Others urged that the benefits of such projects extend to rural communities and small businesses.

Coleman Technical Industries Limited, recognized as the largest cable manufacturer in Sub-Saharan Africa, continues to deliver high-quality, locally produced electrical and fibre solutions trusted across industries, infrastructure projects, and homes throughout the region.

Governor Abiodun reaffirmed that Ogun State will remain the Gateway to Nigeria’s prosperity, championing industrial transformation, innovation, and sustainable development.
