Another batch of Nigerians repatriated from South Africa has arrived in Lagos as part of an ongoing process to return distressed Nigerian nationals to the country.
A total of 83 Nigerians, comprising 58 adults and 25 children, arrived in Lagos aboard South African Airways flight SA060.
The returnees, who were brought back from South Africa, are currently undergoing biometric clearance and documentation under the supervision of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
The latest repatriation exercise marks a departure from the method used for the previous batches, as the returnees arrived aboard a commercial flight rather than a chartered aircraft.
According to information surrounding the exercise, the latest group represents the eighth batch of Nigerians repatriated from South Africa, following seven previous batches that were transported to Nigeria by chartered aircraft.
The arrival forms part of efforts by relevant Nigerian authorities to facilitate the safe return of citizens who have found themselves in distress or require assistance to return home from South Africa.
Upon arrival in Lagos, the returnees were received for the necessary clearance procedures, including biometric capture and documentation, as authorities work to establish their identities and facilitate their onward reintegration.
The inclusion of 25 children among the returnees highlights the humanitarian dimension of the repatriation exercise, particularly the need for appropriate attention to the welfare and protection of vulnerable returnees during the process.
The use of a commercial flight for the latest operation also signals a shift from the chartered-aircraft arrangements adopted for the previous seven batches.

Authorities are expected to continue the necessary procedures to ensure that the returnees are properly documented and supported as they reconnect with their families and communities in Nigeria.
The latest development underscores the continued cooperation between Nigerian authorities and relevant stakeholders in South Africa in addressing the circumstances of distressed Nigerians and facilitating their return to the country.
