The State Coordinator of the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), Olusegun Kaka, has described the group as a unifying political platform, dismissing allegations that it adopted or hijacked its name from another organisation in Ogun State.
Speaking in a statement issued through the Movement’s State Media Director, Oluseun Joshua, Kaka said the Yayi Progressives Movement is a broad-based and inclusive platform open to all stakeholders, regardless of political affiliation.
According to him, the movement—led by its Convener, Armstrong Tope Akintunde—represents a people-driven initiative aimed at fostering unity, participation, and sustainable development across the state.
He explained that the group emerged as a grassroots coalition of artisans, professionals, youth organisations, and community leaders committed to advancing progressive ideals.
“The Yayi Progressives Movement is a distinct grassroots political organisation with its own structure and ideology. We are building a movement that accommodates everyone. This is not the time for grievances; the project is bigger than internal political disputes,” Kaka stated.
Addressing claims circulating on social media, he insisted that the movement carried out due diligence before adopting its name, noting that it remains the only organisation officially registered under that identity with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
“Due diligence with the CAC confirmed that no prior organisation existed under the name before our registration,” he said, challenging critics to provide proof of any prior claim.
Kaka further revealed that the movement has grown rapidly, with membership exceeding 30,000 individuals drawn from diverse backgrounds across Ogun State.
He added that the inclusion of “Progressives” in the group’s name reflects its ideological alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), distinguishing it from similarly named groups.
The coordinator noted that the movement evolved from the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA), which supported the re-election of Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2023, and has now expanded its political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

He confirmed that members of the movement are mobilising support for the governorship aspiration of Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
Kaka used the opportunity to call for unity among party members and stakeholders, urging aggrieved members of the APC and opposition figures to collaborate in pursuit of shared development goals.
“The Yayi Progressives Movement remains a people-driven platform founded on unity, inclusiveness, and progressive development. We are legally established and fundamentally organised,” he said.
Also speaking, the State Deputy Coordinator, Olanrenwaju Lookman Yakubu, appealed for cooperation among members and political actors across divides.
He emphasised that collective effort is essential for achieving political success and sustainable development in the state.
