Tinubu Leads Tributes as Gbenga Daniel Marks 70, Hailed for Service, Leadership

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praises former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel’s achievements as Adeboye, Amosun, Abiodun, and other dignitaries celebrate his 70th birthday in a grand thanksgiving service marked by tributes, worship, and goodwill.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led a wave of tributes to former Ogun State governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, as he marked his 70th birthday, praising his enduring contributions to governance and national development.

“I salute Otunba Daniel for his professional exploits, governance strides, and political achievements.

He accomplished these feats by dint of hard work, tenacity, wisdom, and courage,” the president stated, describing him as a progressive politician and a true Afenifere man.

Tinubu also acknowledged Daniel’s service to Ogun State and Nigeria, commending his commitment to socio-political and economic development, while wishing him continued good health and impactful years ahead.

At the thanksgiving service, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, also extolled Daniel’s integrity and faith, urging Nigerians to embrace the fear of God as the foundation of wisdom and purposeful living.

Gov. Adeleke’s arrival

In his vote of thanks, Daniel expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and other dignitaries for honouring him.

In a moment that drew laughter, he humorously described Amosun as an “enfant terrible successor,” reflecting on their political history with candour.

“Let me appreciate the former governors who are here, especially the one they call Ajiri, Senator Ibikunle Amosun—a fine, terrible successor of mine. He showed me hell, but we thank God, with the prayers of our clergymen, he has repented. Ibikunle, thank you very much. We started the race together, but you were in too much of a hurry. You fought for the crown, and you got it. I still wish you well,” Daniel said.

The event drew an impressive array of dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was represented by his wife, Chief Bola Obasanjo; Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke; former deputy governors of Ogun State, Salmot Makanjuola Badru and Yetunde Onanuga; Ambassador Tokunboh Dosumu-Awolowo; Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola; and a host of political associates and long-time allies.

A highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of a 266-page book chronicling Daniel’s life and accomplishments. The initiative, led by Kola Onadipe, the 2002–2003 OGD Campaign Team Leader, brought together associates who have supported his political journey over the years.
