The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has said Nigeria is recording steady gains in the fight against insecurity, crediting the progress to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decisive security measures and the unwavering courage of the nation’s Armed Forces.
Speaking during the Renewed Hope Empowerment Programme in Zaria, Kaduna State, where he distributed empowerment tools to thousands of beneficiaries, Speaker Abbas emphasized that empowerment is a pillar of national security, noting that stronger communities naturally weaken criminal networks.
During the event, farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs, and households received large-scale materials, including 50 tractors, 92 combine threshers, 4,000 solar-powered water pumps, 1,920 grinding machines, 450 petrol water pumps, 1,500 fertiliser applicators, 1,500 knapsack sprayers, 1,700 deep freezers, and 1,400 industrial sewing machines.
According to him, “When farmers have the tools they need, production rises. When young people have livelihoods, they turn away from violence. When women gain financial strength, families become stable. Today’s distribution is part of our answer to a national challenge. It is our local contribution to the wider effort to secure this country.”
The two-day empowerment series began on Saturday with the groundbreaking of major education-focused legacy projects designed to transform learning across Zaria.
Speaker Abbas also donated 25 SUVs to traditional leaders, acknowledging them as first responders and critical peacebuilders in times of conflict. “They mediate disputes, calm tensions, safeguard unity, and protect our communities. These vehicles will enhance their mobility and support their vital work in peacebuilding and conflict prevention,” he stated.
He noted that the empowerment items reflect a people-first development philosophy, stressing that true economic growth begins at the household level and spreads upward. While Saturday’s activities invested in education and skills, Sunday’s programme focused on strengthening livelihoods and building long-term resilience.
The Speaker added:
“This strategy supports youth. It empowers women. It strengthens farmers. It uplifts traditional leaders. It expands opportunities for traders. It touches every sector of our community. The Renewed Hope Agenda is about restoring confidence and showing that government can deliver.”
Acknowledging the security challenges still affecting several northern communities, Abbas maintained that real progress is underway, driven by President Tinubu’s bold actions, the bravery of Nigeria’s security forces, and the resilience of citizens.
He pledged continued support for Zaria, noting that more federal projects, investments, road upgrades, school improvements, and livelihood programmes would be delivered.
“We will continue to defend the interests of this constituency in the National Assembly. We will continue to work with the President for the progress of our country,” he assured.
