Senator Gbenga Daniel Hails APC NWC Intervention, Urges 100,000 Ijebu-North Students to Join NELFu

Daniel dismisses Ogun State suspension saga as ‘political theatre’, calls for federal road projects to proceed, and reaffirms commitment to Ogun East development.

The Senator representing Ogun-East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has commended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for stepping in to resolve the purported suspension of his party membership by the Ogun State chapter.

Speaking on Sunday in Ijebu North Local Government Area, Daniel described the NWC’s intervention as timely and essential for restoring internal order within the party.

The event also marked a significant boost for his BATOGD political movement, which formally welcomed members of the Ijebu North Forum and hundreds of their supporters who recently defected to the group.

Daniel dismissed the widely circulated Facebook announcement of his “suspension,” calling it “political theatre” orchestrated by aides of the state governor.

“Neither I nor the BATOGD Movement have engaged in any anti-party activities. The so-called suspension reflects intolerance for inclusive governance,” he said.

He accused the Ogun State Government of operating a “three-man closed system”, where dissenting voices face threats, victimisation, or exclusion from government benefits. Daniel also noted that his private attempts to counsel the governor were met with public ostracism.

The senator raised concerns about reported interference in federal rehabilitation projects on Itanrin and General Hospital Roads, facilitated under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“If obstruction continues until December 2025, federal funds may be returned to the treasury. Contractors in Abuja are already hesitant to work in Ogun State due to political disruptions,” he warned.

Daniel appealed to traditional rulers and community leaders to intervene and ensure the road projects proceed for the benefit of residents in urgent need of improved infrastructure.

Reflecting on his tenure as governor, Daniel highlighted achievements including the establishment of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, the multi-campus expansion of Olabisi Onabanjo University, and numerous infrastructure projects across Ogun East. As senator, he has continued to facilitate projects such as solar streetlights, motorised boreholes, and legislation for a proposed Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu-Ode.

The senator reaffirmed the BATOGD Movement’s commitment to the development of Ogun East and the success of President Tinubu’s administration, stressing that political distractions would not impede ongoing progress.

Another key highlight of the event was Daniel’s call for 100,000 students in Ijebu North to register for the NELFund programme. The President of NELFund, Jim Ovia, attending the event, emphasised the programme’s importance and urged parents to support their children in leveraging the opportunity.

The gathering attracted a large crowd of political leaders, community organisations, youth groups, and newly aligned supporters, including members of the Ijebu North Forum whose defection to the BATOGD movement was formally acknowledged.
