Osun Poll: Adeleke Demands Probe, Arrest of Senator Fadahunsi Over Viral Video

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called for the immediate investigation and arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi, following a viral video in which the lawmaker was allegedly heard making remarks calling for attacks against members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke made the demand on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during an emergency press briefing in Osogbo, where he raised concerns over the security situation in the state ahead of Saturday’s election. Reports from multiple Nigerian news outlets corroborate that the governor said he had already taken the matter up with the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and requested immediate action.

According to Adeleke, the video purportedly shows Fadahunsi addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and making statements that the governor interpreted as an incitement to violence against Accord Party leaders, supporters and their families.

Adeleke said the matter had gone beyond ordinary political disagreement and should now be treated as a serious security concern, particularly because it comes only days before voters in Osun State are scheduled to elect their governor.

“This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat that requires the attention of Mr President through the office of the National Security Adviser.”

The governor said he had personally raised the matter with the Inspector-General of Police and demanded the senator’s immediate investigation and arrest.

According to Adeleke, the IGP confirmed that the video exists and assured him that appropriate action would be taken.

“I have raised this issue with the IGP and demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of Senator Fadahunsi. The IGP has confirmed the video and assured me of immediate action.”

The governor further called on the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the allegations and determine whether the senator’s alleged remarks constitute an offence under Nigerian law.

The governor’s demand comes against the backdrop of heightened political tension in Osun State as the August 15 governorship election approaches.

Adeleke also raised concerns over what he described as security operations targeting leaders and supporters of the Accord Party. He alleged that there were moves to arrest some opposition figures and transfer them to Abuja ahead of the election, a claim that he said required clarification from the police authorities.

He urged security agencies to operate within the law and maintain neutrality before, during and after the election.

The governor said the priority should be the protection of lives and property and the preservation of a peaceful democratic process.

Adeleke appealed for the intervention of the Federal Government, particularly the Office of the National Security Adviser, stressing that inflammatory political statements could worsen tensions in the state if left unaddressed.

He urged the authorities to thoroughly establish the authenticity and context of the viral footage and determine whether any criminal offence had been committed.

The governor’s position, as reported by several outlets, is that any person found to have incited violence should be held accountable irrespective of political affiliation.

The controversy comes at a particularly sensitive period, with Osun voters due to go to the polls on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

As political parties intensify their campaigns and mobilisation ahead of the election, Adeleke’s demand has added another security dimension to the increasingly charged electoral atmosphere in the state.

It is important to note that the allegations against Senator Fadahunsi remain allegations at this stage. The requested investigation is expected to establish the authenticity, context and legal implications of the remarks attributed to him.
