Olopade’s leadership earns praise as NUJ secretary celebrates Adegboyega’s NSC appointment

Jubril Adigun says National Sports Commission DG has a proven record of identifying talent and creating opportunities for young professionals

The appointment of media practitioner, Bayo Adegboyega, as Consultant on New Media to the National Sports Commission (NSC) has drawn commendation from the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Jubril Adigun, who says the development once again reflects the leadership style of the Commission’s Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade.

Adigun praised Olopade for what he described as his consistent ability to identify talent, mentor young professionals and place competent individuals in positions where they can make meaningful contributions to national development.

In a statement made available to journalists, the NUJ secretary said Adegboyega’s appointment was not only a recognition of professional excellence but also a testament to the National Sports Commission’s commitment to engaging experienced communication professionals in advancing the country’s sports sector.

According to him, “Hon. Bukola Olopade has always demonstrated an uncommon capacity to discover talents, nurture them and create opportunities for deserving individuals. This appointment is another example of that leadership quality.”

Adigun noted that his admiration for the NSC Director-General stems from personal experience, recalling his interactions with Olopade during his tenure as Ogun State Commissioner for Sports.

He said he witnessed firsthand Olopade’s passion for youth development, capacity building and human resource empowerment, qualities he noted have continued to define his leadership style over the years.

“I remain one of the many beneficiaries of his encouragement and support. Even while serving in the National Youth Service Corps in Cross River State, I continued to draw inspiration from his mentorship and leadership. He has impacted countless lives and remains a source of motivation to many young professionals,” Adigun stated.

The NUJ scribe also congratulated Adegboyega on the appointment, describing him as a dedicated media professional whose years of hard work, commitment and excellence have earned him the opportunity to serve at the national level.

He expressed confidence that the new media consultant would bring his wealth of experience to bear in strengthening the commission’s digital communication strategy and promoting the activities of the National Sports Commission to wider audiences.

Describing Adegboyega as a brother, friend and colleague, Adigun said the appointment was well deserved and prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance for him as he assumes the new responsibility.

“This appointment is a recognition of years of professionalism and dedication to the media profession. I have no doubt that he will justify the confidence reposed in him and make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of Nigerian sports,” he said.

He further urged the newly appointed consultant to see the role as an opportunity to deploy innovative digital communication tools in projecting the achievements, programmes and aspirations of the National Sports Commission.

Adigun expressed optimism that Adegboyega’s tenure would further enhance public engagement with the commission and contribute to ongoing efforts to reposition Nigerian sports through effective communication and strategic media engagement.
