Ogun Education Commissioner Hails Digitalisation Success as Adult Learners Win National Awards

State Celebrates International Literacy Day with Focus on Digital Skills

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, says the digitalisation of the Agency for Mass Education is already producing impressive outcomes, as adult learners from the state have emerged winners in various categories of recent national competitions.

Prof. Arigbabu made this known in Abeokuta during the 2025 International Literacy Day celebration themed “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era”, organised by the Agency for Mass Education.
He explained that integrating Adult and Non-Formal Education activities into the Digital Platform for Education Revitalisation (DiPER) has made operations more seamless while improving knowledge transfer across learning centres.

Represented by the Director of Library Services, Mr. Franklin Giwa, the Commissioner noted that adults who can operate digital devices and engage with modern technology are better prepared to function productively in today’s society. He added that adopting digital tools at all education levels will significantly accelerate the eradication of illiteracy across communities.

According to him, “As a purposeful administration, we envision a future in which every child and adult can read, write and apply essential skills to live independently.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko—represented by the Director of Education (Planning, Research and Statistics), Mr. Obadiah Akindele—called on stakeholders, educators, community leaders, development partners and civil society groups to work with the government to build a literate and digitally skilled Ogun State.

The Zonal Coordinator of the National Mass Education Commission (South West), Mrs. Kuburat Lawal, applauded the Dapo Abiodun-led administration for reviving the Agency for Mass Education and restoring it to a functional and effective institution.

In her welcome address, the Director of Education at the Agency for Mass Education, Miss Abosede Odulesi, said the event was organised to help reduce illiteracy rates, promote lifelong learning, and sensitize the public—efforts she said are crucial to enhancing effective governance and sustainable development.
