The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling for the comprehensive compilation, publication, and digitalisation of all existing state laws to improve accessibility, preservation, and revenue generation.
The resolution, titled H.R. No. 155/OG/2025 – “The Need for Compilation, Publication and Digitalisation of Laws of Ogun State for Accessibility, Preservation and Revenue Generation,” was adopted during Thursday’s plenary following a motion sponsored by Hon. (Barr.) Oluseun Adesanya of Ijebu North East State Constituency. The motion was seconded by Minority Leader Hon. Lukman Adeleye and unanimously supported by all lawmakers.
Leading debate on the motion, Adesanya noted that although Ogun State has enacted numerous laws over the years, many remain difficult to access due to poor documentation and outdated storage systems.
He said digitalising the laws would promote transparency, enhance the ease of doing business, strengthen institutional efficiency, and create new revenue streams through subscription-based platforms.
Former Speaker Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo and Minority Leader Adeleye both backed the initiative, urging the government to develop an online portal hosting all state laws and local government by-laws. They noted that resuming publication and improving legal accessibility would benefit the public, practitioners, and government agencies.
After deliberations, the motion was adopted as a resolution following a move by Majority Leader Hon. Yusuf Sherrif, seconded by the Minority Leader.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide directed that copies of the resolution be sent to relevant stakeholders to begin implementation.
Meanwhile, a new bill titled “H.B. No. 027/PG/2025 – Ogun State Development Planning and Project Community Law, 2025” scaled first reading. The bill was read by the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin.
