Mustapha Named DG of Yayi 2027 Campaign Organisation

Former Ogun East Senator brings three decades of political, legislative and campaign experience to Yayi’s 2027 bid

Senator Ramoni Olamilekan Mustapha, CON, Aare Musulumi of Ogun State and former two-term Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, has been appointed Director-General of the 2027 Campaign Organisation of Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

The appointment has been warmly received by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political associates across Ogun State, particularly in Ogun East, who described Mustapha’s emergence as a recognition of his extensive political experience, leadership capacity and proven ability to manage electoral campaigns.

Mustapha’s appointment is considered significant against the background of his previous role as Director-General of the campaign organisation that delivered the election of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in 2023.

His supporters have described his leadership of that campaign as a demonstration of his political organisation, grassroots mobilisation skills and understanding of Ogun’s political terrain.

With preparations for the 2027 elections beginning to gather momentum, the appointment places a veteran legislator and experienced political strategist at the centre of Yayi’s campaign machinery.

His associates expressed confidence that his knowledge of grassroots mobilisation, party organisation, legislative politics and electoral strategy would be valuable to the campaign as it seeks to consolidate support across Ogun State.

Mustapha, an indigene of Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, has spent more than three decades in public service and politics, with a career spanning local government administration, state public service, the House of Representatives, the Senate and federal public administration.

He began his public-service career in local government administration and later served as Executive Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government. Between 1997 and 1999, he served as Chairman of the Ogun State Task Force on Building Projects.

He subsequently served on the boards of major federal institutions, including the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and the Nigerian Ports Authority.

Mustapha later entered elective politics, representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

His legislative career subsequently took him to the Senate, where he represented Ogun East Senatorial District for two terms.

During his tenure in the House of Representatives, he chaired the House Committee on Communications and the House Committee on Air Force.

In the Senate, he chaired several important committees, including the Senate Committee on Interior, Senate Committee on Police Affairs and Senate Committee on States and Local Government Administration.

He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters.

His legislative responsibilities exposed him to critical areas of national governance, including internal security, policing, communications, local government administration, electoral affairs and Nigeria’s development agenda.

Beyond elective office, Mustapha has remained active in political organisation and community affairs, building a reputation among his associates as a grassroots politician with extensive knowledge of Ogun politics, particularly the political dynamics of Ogun East and Ijebuland.

His public-service career also extended into Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. In 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated him for appointment as a Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), after which the Senate confirmed his appointment.

The appointment further expanded his experience in telecommunications regulation, national policy and federal public administration.

As Aare Musulumi of Ogun State, Mustapha also occupies a prominent position in the religious and community life of the state. His engagements have extended beyond partisan politics to community development, religious activities and issues affecting the people of Ogun State and Ijebuland.

In recognition of his contribution to national service, he was conferred with the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2023.

His political journey has consequently taken him from local government leadership through state public administration and the House of Representatives to two terms in the Senate, federal regulatory service and major campaign leadership.

His latest assignment as Director-General of the Yayi 2027 Campaign Organisation now places him at the forefront of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola’s political machinery as the APC moves towards the 2027 elections.

Members of the Ogun East APC family who congratulated Mustapha on the appointment expressed confidence that his experience, political sagacity and understanding of grassroots politics would contribute significantly to the campaign.

They also wished him wisdom, strength and success as he assumes the new responsibility.
