K1 De Ultimate Declares Interest in Awujale Stool as Fusengbuwa Ruling House Receives Official Request Letter

Ijebu-Ode Local Government begins formal succession process; supporters defend K1’s eligibility and leadership qualities

A new chapter has opened in the succession process for the Awujale of Ijebuland, as Fuji music legend Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) and Olori Omoba, Akile Ijebu has formally notified the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of his intention to be considered for the revered throne.

His declaration follows an official letter issued by the Ijebu-Ode Local Government, dated 2 December 2025, signed by Hon. Oke Abiodun Adebanjo, Secretary to the Local Government, and addressed to the heads of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
The letter, received and acknowledged by the ruling house leaders, directs them to present qualified candidate(s) within 14 days for the vacant stool of Awujale, in line with the laws, customs, and rotational arrangement guiding succession.

According to the letter, the succession move aligns with the Letter of Request from the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, marking the next phase in filling the traditional seat left vacant after the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON.

The directive emphasizes that the process must be “peaceful, transparent, and in line with Ijebu traditions,” and also notes that the Ogbeni Odi will officially carry the Awujale’s Staff of Office as part of the succession rites.

In a separate letter dated 3 December 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, K1 stated that his interest in the stool was guided strictly by Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.

He described himself as a “bonafide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House,” tracing his lineage to Oba Jadiara, and confirming his birth on 3 March 1957.

The development has sparked widespread debate across Ijebuland and online.
Responding on Facebook, commentator Tola Osunnugba offered a passionate defence of K1’s suitability for the throne.

According to him,

“In every great civilization, the throne is not merely a seat of tradition; it is a platform of counsel, character, vision, and responsibility.”

He argued that K1 embodies the attributes required of an Awujale — cultural literacy, resilience, leadership maturity, and global influence.

In his view,

“Obaship demands more than royal blood. It requires integrity, emotional intelligence, humility, and foresight… King Wasiu Ayinde fits this description not by theory, but by a lifetime of lived proof.”

He further highlighted his cultural ambassadorship, business acumen, and philanthropy, contending that such qualities could help position Ijebu-Ode as a global centre for cultural tourism, enterprise, and economic growth.

“History does not merely ask who is next. It asks who is ready. And by every true measure of kingship, King Wasiu Ayinde stands ready,” he concluded.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is expected to screen and submit its nominees to the Executive Chairman’s office within the stipulated timeline.

The succession process for the Awujale throne — one of the most prestigious in Yoruba land — is being closely followed across Ijebuland and beyond.
