The Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has officially rejected Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Anifowose, popularly known as Kwam 1, from contesting the Awujale throne. The ruling, confirmed in a December 11, 2025 letter, comes after days of online speculation fueled by the singer’s high-profile connections, including alleged ties to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The letter, signed by key elders and princes including Chairman Otunba Lateef Adebay Owoyemi, Deputy Chairman Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, and Vice Chairman Chief Prof. Fassy A.O. Yusuf, made it clear that Wasiu’s submission of the required linkage form was invalid. The form, certified by an unregistered family representative, did not meet the traditional requirements for eligibility.
“The form was not signed by the authorised representative of your purported family unit, and our investigation did not reveal any proof of your membership of the Jadiara Royal House or the Fusengbuwa Ruling House,” the letter stated. “The completed form is hereby declared null and void, and your claim is rejected.”
The announcement comes after Wasiu was given three working days to submit his membership documents, a normal procedure for Awujale aspirants. Despite the tight timeline, social media had erupted with speculation that Kwam 1 could leverage his fame and political connections to secure a spot.
The ruling house’s clarification, shared by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, effectively ends the online frenzy, emphasizing that traditional protocol—not celebrity status or political influence—determines eligibility for the throne.
This decision highlights the careful adherence to traditional succession rules in Ijebu-Ode and reaffirms that only registered members who complete the proper procedures can lay claim to the Awujale throne.
