The Enugu State Government has officially taken over the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)’s Digital Industrial Park and Digital Bridge Institute under a 25-year lease arrangement, marking a significant milestone in Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to transform the state into one of Nigeria’s leading digital innovation and technology hubs.

The development gives the Enugu State Government full responsibility for rehabilitating, equipping and operating the two facilities to serve as centres for digital skills development, technology incubation, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Announcing the development, Governor Peter Mbah described the takeover as another important step towards building a knowledge-driven economy capable of preparing young people for the opportunities of the digital age.
According to him, the facilities represent more than physical infrastructure, stressing that they are investments in human capital and platforms that will enable young people to acquire globally competitive digital skills.
“For me, this is about our young people. It is about giving them the skills, the environment and the opportunities to innovate, create and compete with the very best in the world,” the governor stated.
He added that societies that invest in technology, innovation and digital education would dominate the global economy in the coming decades, assuring that Enugu was deliberately positioning itself to become one of Nigeria’s foremost centres for digital transformation.
“The future belongs to those who are prepared for it, and Enugu will be ready. Tomorrow is here,” Mbah declared.
The Digital Industrial Park is expected to provide infrastructure for technology startups, software developers, innovation-driven enterprises and digital businesses, while the Digital Bridge Institute will serve as a centre for ICT training, professional certification, digital literacy and capacity building for youths and professionals.

The projects form part of the Mbah administration’s broader strategy to diversify Enugu’s economy through technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and digital education.
The state government had already earmarked substantial funding for the rehabilitation and operationalisation of both facilities in its budget before assuming control.

Government officials believe the facilities will attract technology companies, encourage private-sector investment, stimulate startup growth and create thousands of employment opportunities while strengthening Enugu’s competitiveness in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
The takeover also aligns with the administration’s wider reforms aimed at modernising public services, improving digital governance and building an economy driven by innovation rather than dependence on traditional revenue sources.
