Minister of Education, Olatunji Alausa, has unveiled the Federal Government’s E-Tricycle Deployment Programme, marking a significant step in improving campus mobility and supporting students under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The launch, held at the University of Lagos, signals a nationwide rollout of clean, affordable and reliable transportation for students. Through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the government is deploying 240 electric tricycles and 12 solar-powered charging stations across 12 public universities.
Under the model, each institution’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) will own and manage the tricycles — a strategy designed to keep fares affordable, generate income for student bodies and ensure long-term sustainability.
Minister Alausa thanked TETFund and participating universities for their collaboration, noting that the programme reflects the administration’s commitment to practical, measurable improvements in tertiary education.
He emphasised that the intervention is “Renewed Hope in action — impactful, student-centred, and aligned with the nation’s green and digital transition goals.”
