APC Governors Reject Alliances That Could Undermine Tinubu’s 2027 Bid

Forum says members will not support arrangements that weaken APC or create divided loyalty ahead of 2027

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resolved not to support or endorse any political alliance or arrangement capable of undermining President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, weakening the party or creating divided loyalty among its members.

The position was announced by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, after a closed-door meeting of APC governors in Abuja.

Uzodimma said the governors had unanimously agreed that members of the forum would not participate in political arrangements that could adversely affect the interests of the APC or its candidates at any level of the 2027 elections.

“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support, or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC, or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma said.

The resolution comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly the activities of the political coalition associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Wike has maintained that his political mobilisation is aimed at securing Tinubu’s re-election, even as the emerging coalition involves politicians from different political parties and may support candidates outside the APC in some state and legislative contests.

The APC governors, however, appear concerned that supporting candidates on different platforms while backing Tinubu for president could create conflicting political interests and weaken the party’s electoral structure.

The forum’s latest position reinforces earlier commitments by APC governors to work collectively toward securing victory for Tinubu and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development is likely to intensify the political debate within the ruling party over whether cross-party alliances can coexist with the APC’s objective of securing its candidates at all levels of the forthcoming elections.

For the governors, the message from Abuja is that support for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid must not come at the expense of the APC’s candidates or the party’s organisational strength across the country.
