The Ogun State Government has extended the ongoing online verification exercise for retirees on the state pension payroll, popularly known as the “I Am Alive” verification, until August 10, 2026.
The extension was announced by the Bureau of State Pensions under the Office of the Head of Service following what officials described as overwhelming appeals from retirees seeking additional time to complete the verification process.

A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pensions and Chairman of the Pension Fund Management Committee, Mrs. Arinola Adetayo, said the extension became necessary to accommodate more pensioners and ensure wider participation in the exercise.
According to the statement, the online verification exercise was introduced as part of efforts by the Ogun State Government to properly ascertain the status of retirees on the pension payroll while strengthening pension administration and improving welfare management for senior citizens.
Mrs. Adetayo explained that the initiative forms part of broader reforms targeted at ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in pension administration within the state.
She noted that the verification exercise is designed to help government maintain an accurate and updated database of retirees while also preventing irregularities within the pension payment system.
The Permanent Secretary stated that affected retirees are expected to complete the process using the official OGUN STATE PENSIONERS APP available on Android and iOS platforms.

According to her, pensioners are required to download the application from either the Google Play Store or Apple Store before proceeding with registration and verification.
She explained that retirees would be required to input their Personal Enrollment Number (PEN), registered phone number and other requested details before submitting the information electronically.
Mrs. Adetayo added that the process also includes facial capture and photograph verification as part of the authentication procedure required to validate pensioners under the system.
She urged all retirees yet to complete the exercise to utilise the extended deadline and comply fully with the verification requirements.

The Permanent Secretary further stressed that the online verification process was introduced to make pension administration easier, more efficient and less stressful for retirees, particularly elderly pensioners who may find physical verification processes difficult.
According to her, the digital platform allows pensioners to complete the exercise from their locations without necessarily travelling long distances to government offices.
She also reiterated the commitment of the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun to improving pension administration and retirees’ welfare through technology-driven reforms and social support initiatives.
The extension of the verification exercise comes amid ongoing reforms within Ogun State’s pension management system, including recent government efforts to strengthen healthcare support and welfare packages for retirees.
Mrs. Adetayo advised pensioners to avoid last-minute registration challenges by completing the exercise before the new August 10 deadline.
