OGUN GOVT STRESSES ROLE OF COMPETENT WORKFORCE IN DRIVING DEVELOPMENT

…Onasanya urges new recruits to uphold integrity, professionalism in public service

The Head of Service in Ogun State, Kehinde Onasanya, has emphasised that a competent and effective workforce remains central to achieving the developmental objectives of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Speaking at a two-day orientation and induction programme for newly recruited officers in the civil/public service held at the Obas’ Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Onasanya said the recruitment into entry-level positions reflects government’s commitment to strengthening service delivery.

According to him, Ogun State’s reputation as a forward-looking public service is the result of sustained reforms, professionalism, and continuous investment in capacity building over the years.

He explained that the induction programme is designed to integrate new officers into the system, equip them with essential knowledge, and prepare them for effective performance in their respective roles.

“The administration continues to prioritise the strengthening of the civil service through strategic expansion of staff strength to meet the demands of governance,” he said.

Onasanya urged the newly recruited officers, drawn from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, to uphold core civil service values, including integrity, accountability, transparency, discipline, and respect for due process.
He described the civil service as the engine room of government, stressing that its effectiveness depends largely on the quality and commitment of its workforce.

He also assured that the government would continue to prioritise staff welfare and professional development.

In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Lydia Fajounbo, said the programme was introduced to address gaps in understanding of civil service values among new entrants.

She noted that the orientation would provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to build a solid foundation for their careers.

Other senior officials, including Permanent Secretaries such as Jola Oyeneye, Arinola Adetayo, and Olufisan Osiyale, encouraged participants to take full advantage of the programme.

They urged the new officers to cultivate professionalism, teamwork, and transparency, noting that the training presents an opportunity to build a successful and impactful career in the public service.
