The race for the Awujale of Ijebuland gained momentum this week as Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Anifowoshe, MON, submitted a formal letter expressing his interest in succeeding the late Oba Sikiru Adetona.
Anifowoshe’s letter of intent was delivered to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House by Prince Adedoyin. In an official reply signed by the Chairman of the ruling house, Otunba Abdul Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, the family confirmed receipt of the expression of interest and acknowledged that the document came without an address or contact information. Owoyemi explained that he was compelled to request and obtain Anifowoshe’s WhatsApp contact directly to ensure proper communication.
The ruling house stated that Anifowoshe must complete the Fusengbuwa Ruling House Individual Member’s Particulars and House Linkage Data Form, which must be duly filled, witnessed and countersigned by the head of his royal lineage. He is also expected to send a representative to collect the Oba Awujale candidate’s application form alongside the required irrevocable undertaking documents. All completed documents are to be submitted in triplicate to allow the house continue processing his application.
Although the deadline for the submission of applications had earlier been fixed for 5 p.m. on Friday, December 5, the Fusengbuwa family granted Anifowoshe a special extension. He is now allowed to return his completed forms on or before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10.
Copies of the response were sent to key government and traditional authorities, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Chairman, the Commissioners for Justice and for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council and senior chiefs of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
