NCAA DG Hails Ogun’s Gateway International Airport, Calls It a Model for Aviation Growth

The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Ona Najomo, has commended the Ogun State Government for its visionary investment in the Gateway International Airport, describing it as a model facility capable of redefining aviation development at the sub-national level.

Captain Najomo made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Governor’s office in Abeokuta, where discussions focused on the ongoing aviation sector reforms and the strategic role of the Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, in Nigeria’s air transport network.

Speaking during the visit, Captain Najomo praised the project’s vision, quality of infrastructure, and alignment with international standards, adding that the NCAA would continue to provide technical support to ensure the airport’s certification and operational readiness.

“The Gateway International Airport represents what state-led infrastructure can achieve when driven by vision and commitment. It is a benchmark project that will contribute significantly to Nigeria’s aviation growth,” Najomo said.

In response, the governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining global standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance as preparations intensify for commercial flight operations at the new airport.

The government also expressed appreciation for the NCAA’s collaboration and pledged to strengthen partnerships with federal aviation agencies to ensure seamless operations.

Officials noted that the visit reinforces Ogun State’s determination to position itself as a major aviation and commercial hub in Nigeria’s Southwest, driving new opportunities for trade, logistics, and industrial expansion.
