The senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), on Saturday visited Ijebu North-East Local Government to distribute empowerment tools and renew his call for the creation of Ijebu-Remo State.
At the BATOGD Initiative Movement event, held at Equity Hotel and Suites, Ijebu-Ode, residents received items such as generators, motorcycles, and sewing machines to support small businesses and household livelihoods.
The programme drew a strong turnout, including traditional rulers led by Oba Odusanya Oduneye, the Olu of Odosenlu Alaro, and several monarchs from Ijebu towns, alongside political leaders and party supporters.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Daniel said governance must remain people-focused, transparent, and accountable. He noted that similar initiatives had recently been carried out across Ogun East, with over a thousand beneficiaries supported through earlier empowerment drives.
“We must tour each local government to know what is next for our people. Our projects, particularly in education and local enterprise, need encouragement from the government—not hostility. Petty politics must not short-change our people,” he said.
Turning to the long-standing agitation for Ijebu-Remo State, Daniel stressed that Ijebu remains one of Nigeria’s oldest provinces without statehood. He suggested that the nine local governments under Ogun East could form the proposed state.
“My appeal is to all Ijebu and Remo indigenes, at home and abroad, not to relent in thanking Mr. President in advance. Ijebu-Remo State is a must; together, we will achieve it,” he declared.
