Tinubu Meets Osun APC Governorship Aspirants, Calls for Unity and Consensus Ahead of Primary

The President urges party cohesion, discourages divisions that cost APC the last Osun election, and secures a joint commitment from aspirants to support a consensus candidate.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and governorship aspirants from Osun State, appealing for unity, discipline and consensus as the party prepares for its primary election on December 13.

The meeting, held Monday night at the State House in Abuja, brought together key aspirants, including former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

Also present were APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum Governor Hope Uzodimma, and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola.

President Tinubu commended the aspirants for their longstanding contributions to the party and urged them to set aside personal differences to ensure victory for the APC in 2025. He emphasised the need to avoid the internal disputes that cost the party the last governorship election in the state.

He reminded them of the importance of party supremacy, stressing that unity and collective responsibility were essential to winning elections. The President expressed confidence in the aspirants’ ability to deliver victory for the APC, pledging his full support and that of the party’s national leadership.

At the close of the meeting, the aspirants issued a joint statement affirming their loyalty to the APC and their commitment to supporting a consensus candidate once selected. They pledged to uphold party decisions, maintain peace and cohesion, and work together to secure electoral success for the APC in Osun State.

According to the statement, the aspirants agreed to abide by the process that would produce the party’s flagbearer, accept the outcome in good faith, and refrain from any actions that could undermine the party’s unity or credibility.

They further committed to helping the APC consolidate good governance in Osun State through collective effort and strict adherence to party guidelines.

The declaration, signed voluntarily by the aspirants and party leaders, reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and acknowledged the guidance provided by President Tinubu and the National Chairman in the interest of Osun’s stability and progress.
