President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official posting of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, marking a major step in strengthening the country’s global diplomatic presence.
The list comprises 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors, whose nominations had earlier been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the ambassadors-designate will represent Nigeria in key countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and multilateral institutions including the United Nations.

Among the prominent non-career ambassadors approved are former lawmakers, senior technocrats, and political figures who will head some of Nigeria’s most strategic diplomatic missions.
Notable appointments include former senator Grace Bent to Lome, Togo; former presidential aide Ita Enang to South Africa; former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain; former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu to Qatar; and former Lagos deputy governor Olufemi Pedro to Australia.
Also included in the non-career list are political commentator Reno Omokri, who will represent Nigeria in Mexico, former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau assigned to China, and former Health Minister Isaac Folorunso Adewole posted to Canada.
Other high-profile nominations include businessman and politician Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former aviation security chief Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.
Meanwhile, the career ambassadorial postings include seasoned diplomats assigned to strategic missions such as Egypt, India, Belgium, Switzerland, Morocco, Malaysia, and Iran.
Among them are Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to India, Ambassador Adebayo Emmanuel Ayeni to Belgium, and Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande to Switzerland.
The Presidency also confirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received diplomatic agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu. Likewise, the France government has approved the posting of Ambassador Ayodele Oke.
Agrément requests for the remaining envoys have been forwarded to their respective host countries in line with international diplomatic protocol.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) to immediately commence an induction and orientation programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their formal deployment to their assigned missions.
The large-scale diplomatic posting is expected to reinvigorate Nigeria’s foreign policy engagement, strengthen bilateral relations, and enhance the country’s representation in international affairs.
