Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke Resigns From PDP Ahead of 2026 Primaries

Governor cites national leadership crisis as reason for leaving the party that produced his Senate and gubernatorial victories.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as preparations intensify for the 2026 gubernatorial primaries.

His exit comes less than 12 hours after the Osun State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, stated publicly that the Governor would not be receiving the party’s re-election ticket due to ongoing leadership issues at the national level.

A resignation letter obtained by The Nation shows that Governor Adeleke addressed the notice to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede, Osun State. The letter, dated November 4, 2025, expressed his decision to leave the party with immediate effect.

In the letter titled “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” Governor Adeleke wrote that the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP prompted his decision. He also expressed gratitude to the party for providing him the platform to serve as a Senator representing Osun West and later as Governor of Osun State.

Adeleke’s resignation marks a significant political shift in Osun State as parties prepare for a heated race toward the 2026 election cycle.
