Obasanjo Commends Gateway International Airport as Abiodun Flies From Abuja to Iperu

Former President hails Ogun State’s visionary investment, says new airport will boost economic growth and strategic positioning

The Gateway International Airport at Iperu-Ilishan has received fresh endorsement following a recent flight from Abuja involving former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, highlighting the growing functionality and strategic relevance of the new aviation facility.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, disclosed that he travelled alongside the former president from Abuja to the Gateway International Airport, noting that the smooth operation of the flight further demonstrated the airport’s readiness and operational capacity.

According to the governor, Chief Obasanjo commended the Ogun State Government for its vision and determination in delivering the project, describing the airport as a bold and forward-looking initiative with far-reaching economic implications.

The former president reportedly praised the airport’s potential to enhance Ogun State’s economic growth, improve connectivity, and strengthen its strategic position as an emerging logistics, industrial and investment hub in the country.

Governor Abiodun said the commendation reinforces the state government’s conviction that the Gateway International Airport will serve as a catalyst for industrial expansion, job creation and increased investor confidence, while complementing existing infrastructure within the state.

The Iperu-Ilishan airport is a key component of Ogun State’s broader development agenda, designed to support commerce, tourism and ease of movement for businesses and residents, while positioning the state as a gateway between Lagos and the rest of the country.

The state government has consistently maintained that the airport will play a critical role in accelerating economic diversification and attracting both local and international investments to Ogun State.
