The Agunsebi axis of Ijebu-Ode, ancestral seat of the illustrious Fusengbuwa Ruling House, came alive on Saturday as top traditional rulers, eminent family members and well-wishers gathered to inaugurate the newly restored Ule Obanlefa Administrative Centre, Library and Archive.
The historic structure—once home to the late Prince Oduwole Obanlefa, grandfather of former Olori-Ebi Prince Adebisi Adeyemi (Obanlefa)—has now been transformed into a modern resource hub dedicated to preserving the dynasty’s heritage.
The renovation was solely financed by his first grandson, Barrister Prince Olawale Oriola Adeyemi, who said the project reflects his commitment to safeguarding the cultural and historical legacy of the Fusengbuwa lineage.
Prince Oriola described the initiative as a tribute to his grandfather’s decades of service as Olori-Ebi from 1988 to 2013, noting that the building will function as a living archive for records, history and administrative activities of the family.
“This place is my origin. I believe it is important to understand your roots and, when the time comes, return to them,” he said.
Explaining the purpose of the project, he added: “We rebuilt it as a resource centre, office space and library where the family can preserve its records and hold important meetings. My investment stems from my commitment to leverage my skills and experiences for the benefit of the Ijebu people.”
Prince Oriola further described the project as a bridge between the legacy of the forefathers and the aspirations of the future, paying tribute to past contributors including the late Awujale, various Olori-Ebis, his grandfather, and the revered Subomi Balogun.
He also reflected on his upbringing in Ijebu-Ode—his years at Ijebu-Ode Grammar School and his journey to becoming an international corporate lawyer in the United States—which he said shaped his strong desire to give back.
“My intention is to uplift and participate actively in the Ijebu culture. With the global experience I’ve gathered as a practising attorney, I felt it was important to return home and do something tangible for my people,” he stated.
“In our family, we are one. This family has existed for generations, and we must preserve that unity and history,” he added.
The Moyegeso of Itele, HRH Oba Mufau Kasali, praised Prince Oriola’s dedication to preserving a key symbol of family heritage and pledged continued support to the ruling house.
Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, current Olori-Ebi, also commended the gesture, describing the late Prince Adebisi Adeyemi as “a father figure who demonstrated exemplary leadership,” while praying for sustained unity within the Obanlefa and Olufadi families.
The event drew distinguished elders of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, including Alhaji Mutiu Adenuga, Alhaja Olohunosun, Prince Adeleke Adeyemi and Princess Temilade Remi-Adeoye. Guests enjoyed traditional music and cultural displays in a celebration of heritage, renewal and family pride.
