Isonyin Grammar School Celebrates 70 Years of Educational Legacy with Week-Long Anniversary Programme

Alumni, community leaders and education stakeholders expected as Ogun school marks milestone with lectures, awards and thanksgiving service

One of Ogun State’s longstanding educational institutions, Isonyin Grammar School, is set to celebrate its 70th Founder’s Day Anniversary with a week-long programme designed to honour the school’s legacy and highlight its contribution to education and community development.

Founded on March 23, 1956 in Isonyin, within Ijebu North East Local Government Area of Ogun State, the school has over the decades built a reputation for academic excellence, discipline and character development, producing generations of alumni who have made notable contributions in fields such as education, medicine, law, engineering, business, media and public service.

The anniversary celebration, themed “Celebrating 70 Years of Impactful and Enduring Legacy in Education,” will run from Monday, March 23 to Sunday, March 29, 2026, bringing together alumni, traditional rulers, community leaders, government officials and education stakeholders from across Nigeria and beyond.

According to the organisers, activities will begin on Monday with a press conference, followed by cultural performances by students and a special event recognising both students and staff of the institution.

The celebrations will continue later in the week with a roadshow through Isonyin and neighbouring communities, as well as a Jumat service and an anniversary lecture that will reflect on the school’s history while exploring strategies for strengthening the future of education.

Saturday’s programme will feature the commissioning of development projects, an awards ceremony honouring distinguished alumni and supporters of the institution, and a reception for guests and participants.

Organisers noted that the colour theme for the day’s activities will be various shades of blue, symbolising the school’s identity and shared heritage among its alumni community.

The anniversary celebration will conclude on Sunday with a thanksgiving service at Emmanuel Anglican Church, where alumni and guests are expected to attend dressed in white.

The milestone event is expected to draw a broad cross-section of stakeholders including former students, community leaders, education advocates and corporate partners who have maintained ties with the institution over the years.
Organisers say the anniversary is not only intended to celebrate the school’s history but also to mobilise support for the rehabilitation and development of critical infrastructure within the institution.

The planning committee has therefore called on alumni and friends of the school to actively participate in the events and contribute toward sustaining the legacy of the institution for future generations.

For many in the Isonyin community, the anniversary represents a moment to reflect on seven decades of educational impact and the enduring role the school has played in shaping leaders across Nigeria.
