Former Ogun head of service, Onasanya, receives City People Award for public service excellence

Ex-HoS dedicates honour to Ogun workforce, credits Dapo Abiodun administration for reforms and achievements

Immediate past Head of Service of Ogun State, Mr. Kehinde Olufemi Onasanya, has been honoured with the City People Award of Excellence in Public Service, in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Ogun State Civil Service and public administration.

The award was presented during the 2026 City People Awards Ceremony held at the Peacock Hall of the Island Club, Onikan, Lagos, where prominent Nigerians from the public and private sectors were celebrated for their contributions to national development.

Presenting the award, Publisher of City People Magazine, Dr. Seye Kehinde, described Onasanya as “a beacon of public service excellence,” noting that his tenure as Head of Service was marked by professionalism, integrity, administrative reforms and commitment to workers’ welfare.

According to him, the recognition was in line with the magazine’s tradition of honouring Nigerians who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership, dedication and service to humanity.

Dr. Kehinde said Onasanya’s contributions to the Ogun State Civil Service left a lasting impact and helped strengthen the culture of professionalism within the public service.

The former Head of Service was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Engr. Fisan Osiyale, FNSE, who received the award on his behalf.

In an acceptance message delivered by Osiyale, Onasanya expressed gratitude to City People Magazine for the honour, describing it as both a recognition of past service and a challenge to continue contributing to national development and humanity.

He dedicated the award to the entire Ogun State workforce, both serving and retired, stressing that the achievements recorded during his tenure were the result of teamwork, dedication and collective sacrifice.

Onasanya also acknowledged the support of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, noting that its worker-friendly policies created the enabling environment that allowed him to serve at the highest level of the state’s civil service.

“The Ogun State Public Service is built on a foundation laid by our forebears and sustained by successive generations. This honour belongs to all of us who served with diligence and integrity,” the message read.

The award recipient further noted that the recognition reinforced the need for public servants to remain committed to excellence, accountability and service delivery in the discharge of their duties.

The ceremony also honoured several distinguished Nigerians, including former Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa, and veteran retired Permanent Secretary, Oluneye Okuboyejo, who received a special recognition award.

The event attracted government officials, business leaders, traditional rulers, media practitioners and other stakeholders from across the country, underscoring the growing importance of recognising excellence in public service and national development.
