Awujale Stool: Jadiara Royal House Refutes Report on Bode Onanuga, Others

The Jadiara Royal House of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu-Ode has refuted a report by Ikokore Reporters which claimed that Bode Onanuga, Bimbo Onabanjo and Folu Aderibigbe had emerged as the three candidates for consultation in the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

In a statement dated August 10, 2026, and signed by Otunba Prince Akinola Odedina DBA, FCA, Oloriebi of the Jadiara Royal House, the royal house described the report as misleading and lacking any traditional or statutory basis.

The Jadiara Royal House maintained that Ikokore Reporters does not possess the traditional, customary or statutory authority to determine or announce candidates for the Awujale stool.

It also categorically rejected the reported claim of a three-candidate consensus, stating that there is no such consensus.

According to the royal house, the identification and consideration of qualified aspirants must be undertaken through the appropriate traditional and statutory processes, involving the relevant ruling house, kingmakers and authorities responsible for the succession.

The statement emphasised that the process should be guided by established customs and applicable laws rather than media reports or campaigns.

The Jadiara Royal House also took exception to what it described as conspiracy allegations surrounding the succession process, urging those making such claims to provide evidence instead of relying on speculation.

It further appealed for fairness and balance in media coverage of the various aspirants. The royal house particularly expressed concern over the manner in which Ademorin Kuye was allegedly portrayed in the publication, describing it as dismissive and denigrating.

It urged media organisations covering the succession process to maintain objectivity and provide a level playing field for all concerned.

The royal house also appealed to journalists, bloggers and members of the public to verify information before publication or circulation, warning against reports capable of creating unnecessary tension within Ijebuland.

On the role of the Ogun State Government, the Jadiara Royal House called for transparency and urged the government to discharge its responsibilities in accordance with the law and without undue pressure.

The royal house reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity and the preservation of the dignity of the Awujale institution.

It said its ultimate desire is for the succession process to produce a lawfully selected Awujale who commands the confidence and respect of the people of Ijebuland.

The statement adds to the ongoing debate surrounding the succession process and comes as stakeholders continue to await further developments on the emergence of the next Awujale.
