Call made at CAN’s Adura Odun prayer event in Ijebu Ode as community reflects on legacy, unity
Barrister Doyin Adedeji has appealed to the Fusengbuwa family to expedite the process of selecting a new Awujale of Ijebuland, saying the emergence of a new monarch will bring joy and stability to the people.
Adedeji made the call while speaking at the fifth day of the Adura Odun programme organised by the Ijebu Ode Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The annual prayer event was hosted at the Adedeji family residence in Ijebu Ode by Barrister Doyin Adedeji and his siblings, representing the family of the late Prof. Adebayo Adedeji.
He expressed appreciation to Asiwaju Onigbagbo, Chief Funmilola Okunowo; Chief Dr. Sunny Kuku, Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Transitional Committee; members of the clergy; the Adedeji family; and other guests for attending the event.
According to him, the timely selection of a new Awujale is important for the peace, continuity, and cultural stability of Ijebuland.
The Adura Odun is a yearly gathering of Christians in Ijebu Ode to offer prayers and thanksgiving for God’s guidance, protection, and blessings over the land and its people.
The event also reflected on the enduring legacy of Prof. Adebayo Adedeji, the renowned economist and academic who played a pivotal role in the establishment of ECOWAS. His contributions to regional integration and development continue to inspire many within and beyond Ijebuland.
