NLC declares indefinite strike in Delta over civil servant’s death

Labour union demands action after deputy director dies amid allegations of assault at Delta secretariat

The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared an indefinite strike across the state following the death of a deputy director in the Ministry of Secondary Education, identified as Mr Unity Adedah.

The declaration was made on Friday by the state NLC Chairman, Dr Goodluck Oforbruku, while addressing protesting civil servants at the Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba.

According to reports, Adedah died on Friday morning following an incident at the state secretariat in which he was allegedly tied up and beaten by thugs. The circumstances surrounding the incident have triggered protests by workers and the labour union’s decision to suspend activities indefinitely.

The allegation has been linked by protesters to the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, although this claim has not been independently established in the reports available at the time of filing this story.

The NLC leadership is expected to press for clarification and accountability over the circumstances surrounding the civil servant’s death as the industrial action begins.

The development is likely to affect government offices and public services across Delta State as workers comply with the labour directive.

More details, including official responses from the Delta State Government and the Ministry of Secondary Education, are expected as the situation develops.
