The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reaffirmed the credibility and integrity of the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, amid growing public comments questioning the accuracy of the recently released results.
In a press release issued by its Public Affairs Department on Thursday, August 13, 2026, WAEC said it had observed what it described as a recent wave of public commentary, particularly from content creators and social media commentators, challenging the credibility of the examination results.
The examination body said while it welcomed constructive scrutiny of its operations, the 2026 WASSCE results were produced through established and quality-assured processes that have guided its examinations over the years.
According to WAEC, the 2026 examination was conducted in accordance with its standard operating procedures and relevant educational policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
The council acknowledged that concerns about examination results were understandable, particularly among candidates whose academic progression depends on their performance. It, however, urged members of the public to exercise caution before accepting or circulating claims about the results without verification.
Seeking to reassure candidates, parents, schools and other stakeholders, WAEC said every candidate’s examination script passes through a multi-tiered system of marking, moderation and auditing.
The council explained that the processes are guided by standardised marking schemes and supervised by vetted subject experts to promote objective and fair assessment.
WAEC maintained that its quality-assurance procedures are designed to protect the integrity of the examination and ensure that candidates are assessed according to established standards.
The examination body also said it maintains channels through which candidates and members of the public can seek clarification or raise complaints concerning examination-related issues.
According to the council, enquiries and grievances can be directed to its offices nationwide or through its official online communication channels.
WAEC identified its official website as waec.nigeria.org and said its verified X and Facebook accounts remain @waecnigeria.

WAEC urged members of the public, particularly candidates and their parents, to avoid relying on unverified information circulating on social media.
The council said individuals with concerns about the 2026 WASSCE results should contact it directly through its offices or verified communication platforms rather than relying on claims or interpretations from unverified sources.
It stressed that protecting the integrity of its assessment process remains central to its responsibility to candidates and the wider education system.
The council’s statement comes at a time when examination results are attracting heightened attention from candidates, parents and education stakeholders, many of whom rely on the outcome of the WASSCE for admission into tertiary institutions and other post-secondary opportunities.
WAEC said it remained committed to maintaining the credibility of its examinations and safeguarding the interests of candidates.
The statement was issued by the Public Affairs Department of WAEC and signed by Moyosola F. Adesina, ANIPR, Head, Public Affairs, WAEC, Yaba, Lagos, for the Head of National Office.
